Intel's investment in China will not be less than any other country, and the company is confident it will regain its lead over rivals like Nvidia and Apple Inc globally, a top executive said on Thursday.
"Intel has been in China for 36 years and will continue to develop vigorously in the country,"said Wang Rui, chairman of Intel China, in her first media interview after the new appointment.
Wang said the company has fallen behind in chip production process to some degree, but the company will work at a faster pace to surpass others.
"The past few years gave companies like Nvidia a place where there is no competition to realize product iterative innovation and development. Now that Intel comes back, Intel's competitors are just ourselves," Wang said.
"The company will accelerate the implementation of IDM 2.0 strategy, including investment and other ecological construction, to realize its entire ecological innovation," she added.
Intel has unveiled its 12th generation of Intel Core chips for PCs, known by the code name Alder Lake. The company said the product line will eventually include 60 different chips destined for 500 models of PCs from various makers, from thin laptops to larger machines designed for gamers.
On Thursday, Intel also launched an upgrading Developer Zone, new oneAPI 2022 toolkits and new oneAPI Centers of Excellence, which are designed to better enable developers.
"Open-source software is actually more widely used in China than anywhere else in the world. Therefore, Intel China will focus on how to increase investment and cooperation for the open source community, then empower the entire community," Wang said.
