I don't remember when exactly my passion about visiting the countryside started. After my tour to Zhonganqiao village of Zhenze town on Nov 18, where I spent time in the rice field and found inner peace, I realized that I enjoyed escapes to the countryside a lot and this one was best.

The countryside is not all about nature – it also means hospitable people, unique culture, folk traditions that are still kept alive, which I all experienced in the village. We also practiced harvesting rice and making silk handicrafts with a native villager.

The technological advancement of Wujiang is also a highlight of my visit, as we found ecologically friendly projects helping in waste management and making ecosystem of the city more desirable. We were amazed to learn that the Household Waste Incineration and Power Generation Expansion Project in Wujiang is the first large-scale co-processing plant for domestic waste, general industrial solid waste and sludge in China. The project will make a great difference to local environment protection after it becomes operational and realizes zero landfills for general solid waste.

Our journey ended at Yuandang Pedestrian Bridge which is itself a tourist attraction. The bridge spans over Yuandang Lake and connects Suzhou's Wujiang with Qingpu district in Shanghai. After water treatment, ecological restoration, landscape building, and the construction of public facilities such as cycling lanes and sight-seeing trails, Yuandang Lake has become a green space favored by local citizens and tourists.

The "Go Jiangsu" trips offered new opportunities for foreigners to visit and explore new places in China's Jiangsu province. In all, these tours are helpful in promoting history, culture, civilization and scenic beauty of China and I am happy to be a part of it.
