Macao enhances cooperation with Jiangsu province

MACAO -- China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) will enhance cooperation with eastern province of Jiangsu on various fronts during the country's 14th Five-Year Plan period from 2021 to 2025, according to an agreement signed by the two sides.

Macao and Jiangsu will step up cooperation in over 10 areas, including science, technology, economy, trade, modern service, education, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), exhibitions and youth exchange, showed the agreement signed during the ongoing Jiangsu Week held in Macao.

Lei Wai Nong, secretary for economy and finance of the Macao SAR government, said Macao will continue to host a series of events, including the Jiangsu-Macao Industrial and Commercial Summit for Portuguese-speaking Countries, and promote trade between Jiangsu as well as other mainland provinces with Portuguese-speaking countries.

Hui Jianlin, a senior official of Jiangsu, said the province has taken the advantage of the summit, which has been held annually over the past 10 years, to maintain close exchanges with Macao and Portuguese-speaking countries, witnessing rising trade volumes year by year.

During the Jiangsu Week, a series of events have been held to showcase the achievements of different cities in Jiangsu on the ecological and cultural fronts.

The city of Yancheng exhibited its migratory bird sanctuaries along the coast of the Yellow Sea-Bohai Gulf of China (Phase I), which was inscribed on the World Heritage List as a natural site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2019.

The exhibition showcased beauties of the bird sanctuaries with virtual reality technologies, and visual and audio effects to create immersive experiences for visitors to learn about the sanctuaries, which is home to the world's largest continuous mudflat seashore and about 280 species of fishes and more than 500 species of invertebrates.
