Beijing's major business sectors, including department stores, supermarkets, shops and restaurants, brought in revenues of 3.89 billion yuan ($610 million) during the three-day New Year's holiday, the city's commerce bureau said on Monday. The figure represents year-on-year growth of 18.8 percent.
The capital's 52 key business areas saw total visits of 16 million, up 35 percent over the same period last year.
The cinema industry in the city has seen a good start this year, with total box office intake during the holiday reaching more than 1 billion yuan.
To attract consumers, many shopping malls and business areas held activities with winter sports themes.
