FM denounces attempts to derail China-EU relationship

Some forces are unwilling to see the stable development of China-European Union relations so they fabricate a so-called China threat, play up competition with China and even provoke sanctions and confrontation, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday.

"I hope both China and the EU could be highly alert to this," Wang said when he met the press on the sidelines of the fifth session of the 13th National People's Congress.

Wang said China-EU cooperation, which goes through decades of ups and downs, is deeply rooted in solid public support, extensive common interests and similar strategic needs.

"Such cooperation enjoys great resilience and potential and cannot be reversed by any force," he added.

Noting the China-EU relationship does not target any third party, nor is it dependent on or subject to them, Wang also said China hopes Europe could establish a more independent and objective understanding of China and practice a pragmatic China policy.
