The Ministry of Commerce said on Thursday that it firmly opposes the US government's decision to revoke the license of Pacific Networks and its wholly owned subsidiary ComNet.

Gao Feng, spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, said the US should immediately stop "unreasonable suppression" of Chinese companies and its wrong practice of politicizing economic and trade issues to create a fair and stable business environment for companies around the world, including Chinese enterprises operating in the US.

China will take necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises, Gao added.

The comments came after the US Federal Communications Commission on Wednesday voted to revoke the authorization for Chinese telecom Pacific Networks and its wholly owned subsidiary ComNet to provide US telecommunications services.

Gao said the US has continued to overstretch the concept of national security and abused its state power, and it has maliciously suppressed Chinese telecom companies without any factual basis.

According to him, that violates the most fundamental principles of non-discrimination and fair competition, violates universally recognized international economic and trade rules, disrupts normal market order, and harms the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises and consumers including US users.
