BEIJING -- China's road freight volume rose 4 percent year-on-year in the first two months of the year, data from the Ministry of Transport showed.

More than 5.01 billion tons of road cargo were transported in the January-February period, according to the ministry.

In February alone, China's road freight volume came in at around 2.09 billion tons, said the ministry.

Northeast China's Jilin province led the expansion among 31 provincial-level regions, reporting year-on-year growth of 28.9 percent, followed by the northwestern Qinghai province and northeastern Liaoning province.
