Is vocational education the future?

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2022-04-30 08:00

Editor's note: A revised Vocational Education Law will take effect on May 1, which stipulates that vocational education will enjoy the same importance as general education and issues measures to promote the high-quality development of vocational education. In China, more emphasis is given to general education and those who fail in the high school admission exam or college entrance exam attend vocational schools. Will vocational education become the key to cultivating students with better practical skills and abilities? What should be done to improve the quality of vocational education? Readers share their opinions about the vocational education in China.

The world mistakenly undervalues vocational training when it should be grateful! It doesn't matter how skilled an engineer is if they cannot build what they design. It is the common laborer and skilled tradesman that does that, and when it needs diagnosis, repair or rebuilding, it is the skilled tradesman that does that. Sure, today's EV vehicles are great but the engineer can't assemble them or fix them. When it breaks down and leaves you stranded, the engineer and designer are useless! You need a skilled tradesman to fix it.
