No matter what kind of regional strategy is proposed, the aim should be to pursue mutual benefit and win-win results rather than a zero-sum game, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday.
Wang made the remark in a video meeting with Indonesia's Coordinator for Cooperation with China and Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan.
During the talks, Wang reiterated China's support for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, saying the ASEAN-centered regional cooperation structure is the key to maintain peace and stability in the East Asia.
No matter whether the regional cooperation expands to the Pacific Ocean or Indian Ocean, the focus should be put on the East Asia and the engine should be the ASEAN, Wang stressed.
He hit out at the "Indo-Pacific Strategy" pursued by the United States, saying it runs against the trend of the times and does not conform to the common and long-term interests of countries in the region.
Wang slammed Washington for activating the Five Eyes, an intelligence alliance comprising Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the US, saying the US is essentially advocating the spreading of the outdated Cold War mentality.
The "Quad", officially the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, which consists of the US, Australia, India, and Japan, is aimed at creating a new bloc of confrontation in the region, Wang said.
Wang also noted that Washington advances the trilateral security partnership among Australia, the UK and the US to stoke arms race in the region.
Noting the two countries are representatives of emerging economies, Wang said that China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Indonesia on regional cooperation, so as to jointly safeguard the hard-won peace and stability in the region, and the legitimate rights of countries in the region to seek development and revitalization.
Luhut stressed that the solidarity and cooperation between Indonesia and China would enable his country to overcome various current difficulties and challenges.
Noting bilateral ties are mutually beneficial and win-win in nature, he said it would provide important guidance for developing countries' cooperation.
In response, Wang said he looked forward and believed that relations between China and Indonesia would become a model of mutual benefit and win-win results, an example for common development, and a pioneer in South-South cooperation.
