State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone conversation with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi on Wednesday, during which the two sides agreed to strengthen communication and coordination to ensure the success of the Group of Twenty Bali Summit, to be held in November.
Wang expressed China's firm support for Indonesia in hosting a successful summit, saying Asian countries should play an active role in peace, stability and development in the region and the world at large in face of a turbulent international situation.
China fully agrees with what Indonesian President Joko Widodo has stressed on multiple occasions, that the G20 has been an economic forum rather than a political one since its establishment, he said.
Wang said China firmly supports Indonesia in playing its role in the presidency, eliminating interference to achieve the established agenda goals and leading the G20 in the right direction.
This is also in line with the common expectations of most G20 members and the international community, he added.
The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine issue, and both called on the international community to work together to reach a ceasefire, stop hostilities, resume peace talks and restore peace, according to a press release from the Foreign Ministry's website.
