China is projected to see nearly 74 million passenger trips during the three-day Dragon Boat Festival, which ended on Sunday, a significant drop compared with last year, the Ministry of Transport said on Sunday.

Nearly 73.37 trips are expected to be made, a year-on-year drop of 40.3 percent compared with last year and down 9.6 percent over the same period in 2020, the ministry said.

Among them, highways are projected to witness 54.49 million passenger trips, down 37 percent over the same period in 2021, down 4.1 percent over the same period in 2020. Nearly 1.15 million trips are expected to be made by water, a year-on-year drop of 39 percent compared with 2021 and down 31.7 percent over the same period in 2020.

During the holiday, the ministry carried out epidemic control protocols to contain the spread of the COVID-19 on the one hand, and also ensured the unimpeded transport and logistics on the other hand.

Other work including safety inspection and service quality improvement were also implemented.
