Yu Changxiang, a Nanjing Massacre survivor, died on Tuesday at the age of 95, reducing the number of survivors officially registered with the Memorial Hall of the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders to 55.

Yu, who was 10 years old at the time of the massacre, refused to talk about his experience for more than 70 years until he visited the memorial hall in 2012 at age 85. He saw images of his father being stabbed to death by Japanese soldiers and learned of other people who were robbed, raped or beheaded.

In December that year, he visited Fukuoka, Kumamoto and Nagasaki, Japan and shared his experiences with local people.

His neighbors said that he was a kind and passionate person who was always willing to help others.

Yu donated his body for medical research.
