The Shanghai Municipal Education Commission has prepared air conditioners, ice cubes and other cooling methods for students who will be undergoing the July 7 to 9 college entrance examinations in Shanghai, which is presently experiencing a heat wave.

The Shanghai Meteorological Service on Wednesday issued a yellow alert for high temperature, warning residents that the mercury is likely to soar above 36 C in the coming days.

At the Shanghai Yangpu Vocational and Technical School, staff has tested electrical systems to ensure the smooth operation of air conditioning units and fans. Meanwhile, the Shanghai Kong Jiang High School has set up a rain shelter and sunshade at the entrance where students will need to have their identity and epidemic information verified before sitting for the exams.

Each student must undergo two nucleic acid tests within three days before the examination. Those who are under centralized quarantine or have abnormal nucleic acid results will take the exams at special test sites instead.

More than 50,000 candidates will take the college entrance examinations in Shanghai this year.
