Shanghai issues red alert for heat wave

Shanghai issued its first red alert of the summer as temperatures in the city's downtown Xuhui district hitting 40C on Sunday afternoon.
The heat wave that has lingered since July 5 is expected to last in the coming days, according to forecast by the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau.
This is the first time Shanghai has experienced another heat wave with temperatures hitting 40 C in five years. In 2017, the city experienced a stubborn heat wave that pushed the highest temperature to a record high of 40.9 C.
