Regular passenger flights between Chongqing and Bangkok, Thailand, resumed on Saturday afternoon at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport after being suspended for nearly two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The flights — currently scheduled for once a week — are operated by Thai Smile, a subsidiary of national flag carrier Thai Airways.
The route is the fourth regular international and regional passenger route opened for the municipality this year, after routes to Hong Kong, Rome and Madrid, according to Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport.
The airport is planning to add more international passenger flights to help boost the economy.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Thailand. Thailand is China's third-largest trading partner among Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries.
Chongqing and Bangkok became sister cities in 2011.
