Sinologists call for bridging the cultural divide

Initiated by Beijing Language and Culture University, the World Council of Sinologists and Global Forum on World Civilizations and the Chinese Path was held in Beijing on Wednesday.

More than 100 sinologists and dozens of well-known scholars from more than 60 countries participated in the conference online and offline. At the meeting, participants expressed their best wishes and expectations for the establishment of the World Council of Sinologists.

Liu Li, chairman of the World Council of Sinologists and president of Beijing Language and Culture University, said in his speech that sinologists have provided unique perspectives for understanding China. The World Council of Sinologists acts as a bridge which will contribute to the promotion of positive exchanges between Chinese and foreign cultures.

Liu Binjie, chairman of the National People's Congress Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee and former director-general of the Publishers Association of China, pointed out that the establishment of World Council of Sinologists will switch on the academic grid of Sinologists country by country, share academic achievements, tell the story of China and set up friendly relationships with countries around the world. At the same time, we must pay more attention to new technologies, strengthen digitization and database construction, and help Chinese culture go global.

Uzbekistan's ambassador to China Farhod Arziev said in his speech that the establishment of the World Council of Sinologists will undoubtedly pave a "cultural highway" for Chinese and the world's cultural researchers, particularly for Uzbek scholars, and provide lasting power and stability for academic cooperation between scholars from both countries.

As an alumnus of Beijing Language and Culture University, Carlos Miguel Pereira, Cuban ambassador to China, expressed his excitement for the establishment of World Council of Sinologists. He believed his alma mater will push China-Cuba educational cooperation to a new level in the future.
