Aside from its connection to ancient China, the movie also features some sci-fi elements, such as a scene depicting a combat between two giant robots manipulated by the villain and Boo. Depicted as an enthusiastic foodie, Boo designs a special function for his robot, which can "cook" hotpot food in the controlling center.

The film held its premiere in Beijing on July 24, gathering major creators and some animated industry veterans, such as White Snake producer Yu Zhou and Phoenix director Mao Qichao.

Director Wang recalled that he felt delighted, remembering how his mood lightened up while reading the Crazy! Kwai Boo comic books for the first time several years ago.

Yearning to shoot feature-length movies about Boo, Wang said he has since started to seek more inspirations, with the latest outing having been inspired from his 2016 tour to Sanxingdui Museum.

He said he was amazed to see Chinese ancestors were capable to make these delicate and quality artifacts thousands of years ago, inspiring him to produce a movie about the ancient civilization.
