Wang Yi speaks out on Pelosi's Taiwan visit

The overriding trend of Taiwan being reunited with the motherland will never be changed, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday, calling US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's sneaky visit to Taiwan "a complete farce".

Wang made the remark when meeting the press in Cambodia. He is currently attending a series of ASEAN-plus foreign ministers' meetings there and also paying a visit to the country.

Wang said that the United States is violating China's sovereignty in disguise of the so-called "democracy" and the "Taiwan independence" separatists such as Tsai Ing-wen and her like are abandoning righteousness of the Chinese nation by soliciting US' support.

However, such retrogressive acts cannot at all change the international consensus on the one-China principle, nor the historical trend of Taiwan's return to to the motherland, Wang said.

Those who play with fire will come to no good end and those who offend China will be punished, he added.
