Public security organs nationwide have stepped up efforts to improve public order during this summer and good results have been achieved, with nearly 270,000 criminal cases resolved during the past month, an official with the Ministry of Public Security said on Friday.
In the first half of this year, criminal cases nationwide fell by 16.3 percent year on year, and people's sense of security has steadily improved, said Qiu Baoli, head of the ministry's security administration bureau, at a news conference held in Beijing.
However, shortly after entering the summer, some crimes more likely to occur during this time of the year had a relatively high occurrence, especially when people ate out, such as the assault case in Tangshan where four women were beaten by a group of men on June 10, he said.
According to the deployment of the ministry, since June 25, public security organs nationwide have launched a 100-day operation to crack down on prominent illegal activities and social disorder, and diffused various security risks.
"The operation combines the crackdown with the prevention of such prominent problems and takes comprehensive rectification to curb the problems at the source," Qiu said.
By the end of July, police nationwide resolved 269,800 criminal cases and arrested 465,800 suspects, establishing a strong deterrence nationwide. Meanwhile, ministerial and provincial level public security organs investigated 506 public security problems and supervised the handling of 1,800 major cases.
