AI education summit held in Shanghai

A global teenager AI education summit was launched by the CWI (China Welfare Institute) Children's Palace in Shanghai on Tuesday to explore new ways and modes for AI education among youngsters.

The event is one of the latest attempts of China Welfare Institute to promote innovation in youngsters' education, and use digital technology to cultivate future talents adapting to the intelligent era, according to Song Zhongbei, deputy secretary-general of the China Welfare Institute.

Founded by Soong Ching Ling in 1938, the Shanghai-based organization focuses on maternal and children's health, education, and social welfare. For over eight decades, the CWI has been inspiring youngsters to love, learn and use science, technology and innovation, said Song.

A project on cutting-edge courses, immersive experience, high standard AI programming contests was launched jointly by the CWI Children's Palace, the Beijing Normal University and Tencent's WeChat during the event.

Six experts and scholars were invited to be scientist tutors, who would give science lectures on AI via a series of themed forums, and provide guidance and support for young boys and girls during the contests and activities.

An AI innovative course that teaches programming with WeChat's mini app was also issued on Tuesday, which aimed to create a programming environment for young generations.
