Macao scientists were called upon on Wednesday to give full play to their strengths to contribute to the nation's development.
The remarks were made by leading national scientists at the seminar - The Distinguished Chinese Scientists Lecture Series, which was cohosted by the China Association for Science and Technology and the Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macao in Macao on Wednesday.
Making a speech at Wednesday's seminar, Xu Yanhao, deputy secretary of the Leading Party Members Group of the CAST, said the nation's burgeoning technology development has provided the biggest stage for the Macao technology sector, especially in youngsters, to realize their ambitions and show off their talents.
Xu called on the sector to leverage their own strength to serve Macao and the country's development, as well as the rejuvenation of the nation.
Macao youngsters are also encouraged to pursue science and carry forward the scientists' spirits to actively participate in the technology development and align their personal dreams with the nation's development.
Also speaking at the same event, Kong Chi-meng, director of Education and Youth Development Bureau of Macao Special Administrative Region, said the lecture series has been a signature event of Macao in promoting science and technology education. "It is also a platform facilitating the exchanges between Macao and the Chinese mainland in science and technology, which not only help the youngsters broaden their horizon, but also deepen their understanding of the nation's development," Kong said.
Head of the Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macao Chui Sai-peng said since the establishment of the lecture series in 2004, it has invited top national scientists from different areas to visit the city to share with the public, especially the youngsters, cutting edge technology and knowledge.
The association will continue to invite more of the nation's top-notch scientists to attend the event, he said.
This year the series featured two thematic lectures given respectively by the academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences Liu Jiaqi and renowned pulp and paper engineering expert Chen Kefu. Over 200 people attended the seminar.
