Premier Li Keqiang has reaffirmed China's commitment to promoting progress in nuclear technology and the growth of nuclear industries, and deepening international nuclear cooperation to facilitate socioeconomic transitioning so as to usher in more benefits for people in different nations.

Li made the remarks on Tuesday in a congratulatory letter sent to the 23rd Pacific Basin Nuclear Conference 2022, which is held this week in Chengdu, Sichuan province.

He noted that the peaceful development and use of nuclear energy, a form of energy that is safe, stable and efficient, has offered fresh impetus to the development of mankind.

It has also played a key role in ensuring energy security, responding to climate change, promoting the green and low-carbon transitioning of energy, and the development of high-end equipment manufacturing sectors, he said.

The Chinese government will remain unwavering in proactively developing nuclear energy on the premise of ensuring absolute security, Li added.

He also called on various nations to give priority to public well-being and fulfill their obligations that are stipulated by international laws on nuclear security and uphold the international nonproliferation system with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty as the cornerstone.

The conference is hosted by the Chinese Nuclear Society and conducted under the auspices of the Pacific Nuclear Council.
