Vision for mankind has strong appeal: FM

By ZHAO JIA | China Daily | Updated: 2022-11-04 07:24

China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said on Thursday that the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind is in accordance with the common expectations of the international community, and has strong vitality and appeal after the vision has been incorporated into the United Nations documents for six consecutive years.

He made the remarks after the 77th session of the UN General Assembly First Committee had adopted the resolutions of no-first placement of weapons in outer space and further practical measures for the prevention of an arms race in outer space with an overwhelming majority of votes.

Put forward by China and Russia, the two resolutions stressed that it is essential to jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind and prevent an arms race in outer space.

"It is the sixth year that the vision has been included in resolutions of the UNGA on outer space security," Zhao told a daily news briefing. "The voting results speak volumes of where the trend of the times is heading and what people truly aspire for."

Zhao said that building a community with a shared future for mankind is the way forward for all peoples, and the vision has won the universal support and recognition of the vast majority of countries, especially developing countries.

Meanwhile, Zhao criticized Canada for overstretching its national security and arbitrarily setting obstacles against normal bilateral economic and trade cooperation, after Ottawa ordered three Chinese firms to exit lithium deals.

Such acts went against the principle of the market economy, as well as international economic and trade rules, harmed the development of relevant industries and damaged the stability of global industrial and supply chains, he said.

"China urges Canada to immediately halt unwarranted suppression, and create a fair, just and nondiscriminatory business environment for Chinese companies," said Zhao, adding that Beijing would continue to resolutely safeguard legitimate and lawful rights and interests of its enterprises.
