The Wuhan Declaration, which is committed to mobilizing more resources to develop a more ambitious plan for the wetlands and take more effective actions for wetlands protection by 2030, came out at the high-level ministerial segment on Sunday, during the ongoing 14th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in Wuhan, Hubei province.

The declaration calls for the promotion of legislation and enforcement for the protection, restoration, management and sustainable use of wetlands.

It suggests that more wetland parks or wetland education centers should be set up. Wetland conservation and restoration measures are needed to address social, economic and environmental challenges.

It encourages prioritizing conservation and management of vulnerable ecosystems including peatlands, coral reefs and seagrass beds, mangroves, highland wetlands and groundwater systems.
