China to continue to champion peace and development: Spokeswoman

China will continue to champion peace, development and win-win cooperation, no matter how the international situation may change, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said on Friday.

China's policy has remained highly consistent and stable, and the country has always been committed to promoting world peace, maintaining international order and contributing to global development, Mao said.

Mao made the remarks at a daily news conference in response to some people's notion that China has become "tougher" and constitutes "a challenge or even threat to other countries".

President Xi Jinping delivered a written speech at the APEC CEO Summit in Bangkok on Thursday, calling for the Asia-Pacific region to follow a path of peaceful development, openness, inclusiveness and of solidarity.

Such a path is a valuable lesson that has facilitated regional development for the past several decades, and should continue to be jointly upheld by China and other regional countries, Mao said on Friday.

China has been committed to building a community with a shared future for mankind, Mao said. "What the Chinese people hope to see the most is peace and stability. China has made a strategic choice to pursue peaceful development according to the fundamental interests of its people," she said.
