Around 600,000 punished by top anti-graft body

Discipline inspection and supervision organs across the country filed 596,000 cases for investigation and imposed disciplinary or administrative punishments on 592,000 people in 2022, the nation's top anti-graft watchdog said on Friday.
Among the punished, 53 people were at the provincial or ministerial level, 2,450 people were at the department or bureau level, 21,000 people were at the county or division level, and 74,000 people were at the township level, according to a statement issued by the Central Commission of Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Commission of Supervision.
Discipline inspection and supervision organs received about 3.44 million tip-offs or petition letters, handled 1.54 million clues and made 325,000 oral or written inquiries, it said.
In 2022, the organs used four forms of oversight and discipline enforcement to criticize, educate and deal with about 1.84 million people. Among them, 64,000 were given heavy punishments or major post adjustments for serious violations of discipline, and another 64,000 were investigated for serious violations of party discipline and national laws, as per the statement.
