Beijing's leaders put Haidian district in spotlight

Beijing's top officials highlighted the city's Haidian district in economic and scientific development during inspection tours conducted after the Chinese New Year holiday.

Yin Li, Party chief of Beijing, said the city will prioritize resuming and expanding consumption, as well as providing people with more high-quality products and services, during his visit to the district on Saturday.

"We will let investment play its key role by restoring work and production, supplying land, funds and other market resources, and optimizing investment structure," he added.

Beijing will strengthen the supporting role of key industries by boosting the development of the digital economy and enhancing its industrial advantages in finance and information technology. It will help companies with difficulties through a "service package" mechanism and 12345 service hotline, and foster a market-oriented, law-based and international business environment.

During Beijing's "two sessions" meetings on Jan 16, Yin visited the Haidian district delegation. He said Beijing will complete its scientific and technical innovation system, improve service for talents and promote the development of world-class research and development institutions to make progress in bottleneck technologies.

On Saturday, Yin Yong, mayor of Beijing, also visited Haidian and held a meeting with delegates from research institutions and technology companies.

He said Zhongguancun, Beijing's high-tech hub, should endeavor to become a world-leading science and technology park and innovation hub.

"Talent is the core resource for scientific and technical innovation. Beijing will cultivate and attract high-level talents, complete the talent service mechanism and deepen management reform," he added.

He stressed enterprises have the most active role in innovation, saying Beijing will promote deep cooperation between different fields and establish a diversified mechanism to make more key technological breakthroughs and accelerate commercialization of research discoveries.
