US surgeon general: Early social media use harmful to youth

Most major social media platforms in the US, including Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat, require users to be at least 13 years old. US Surgeon General Dr Vivek Murthy said in a recent interview that he believes that 13 years old is a time when youths think about their own self-worth and relationships, and the distorted environment of social media does a disservice to many of those children.
