Corrupt officials being held accountable, anti-graft bodies say

Over 2,300 officials from disciplinary inspection and supervision agencies at all levels were penalized last year, according to the Central Commission of Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China and the National Commission of Supervision, the country's top anti-graft bodies.

Another 110 discipline inspection officials were transferred to judicial organs for investigation, according to a statement regarding the supervisory and disciplinary review and the investigation of discipline inspection personnel in 2022, which were issued by the commissions on Wednesday.

Among the penalized, 77 people were at the bureau level or above, and about 460 people were at the county level.

Disciplinary inspection and supervision agencies at all levels have upheld full and rigorous self-governance to punish corrupt officials within the disciplinary inspection and supervision departments to firmly prevent "black under the lamp".

Disciplinary inspection and supervision agencies at all levels received 22,100 tipoffs and reports involving disciplinary inspection and supervision personnel and dealt with 17,200 of them. They also held cautionary talks and carried out written inquiries 7,000 times with involved officials, and filed 2,200 cases for investigation, the statement said.

Last year, the national disciplinary inspection and supervision agencies used criticism and oral or written inquiries to handle about 154,000 disciplinary inspection officials. They handed down light penalties and made minor organizational adjustments to positions for about 2,000 people.

The agencies also issued heavy penalties and made major adjustments to positions for about 330 officials, and they dealt with 161 people through investigation and prosecution due to their serious violations of Party rules and national laws.
