China will hold its second national skills competition in mid-September in Tianjin, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security said.

The competition aims to encourage local authorities to optimize their skills training and create a more friendly social environment for skilled workers by promoting the spirit of craftsmanship.

The ministry said that the competition will begin on Sept 16 and conclude on the 19th. Chinese people on the mainland who are older than 16 are encouraged to take part in the competition, which is in its preparatory phase.

Some participants will be selected to join the 47th WorldSkills competition in Lyons, France next year, to vie with others in events including cloud computing, aircraft maintenance and cybersecurity.

In December 2020, China organized its first national skills competition in Guangzhou, capital of the southern province of Guangdong, which was recognized as the largest and most comprehensive skills competition organized since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949.
