Report: About 3 train derailments daily in the US last year

Rail accidents have been common in the United States recently. In fact, train derailments in the US are far more frequent than recently noted. Nationwide, there were at least 1,164 train derailments in 2022, according to the Federal Railroad Administration. That means an average of about three train derailments a day in the US. Human error was the leading cause of train derailments last year, while track defects were the second-leading cause.
