An investigation into flight MU5735 that crashed with 132 people onboard a year ago will continue due to the complexity of the situation, the Civil Aviation Administration of China, or CAAC, said on Monday.

The China Eastern Airlines Boeing 737 aircraft, which departed from Kunming in Yunnan province bound for Guangzhou in Guangdong province, crashed into a mountainous area near the village of Molang in Tengxian, in the county of Wuzhou, in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region on March 21, 2022. All 123 passengers and nine crew members died in the crash.

In the past year, the CAAC has strictly followed related regulations and conducted an in-depth, meticulous and rigorous investigation into the accident along with related departments, according to an online notice published on the one-year anniversary of the event.

A CAAC technical team carried out investigations on-site, along with data inspections, personnel interviews, and experimental analysis, according to the statement.

However, due to the complexity of the accident, investigation work must continue, it said. The investigation team will continue their work analyzing the cause of the crash, making experimental verification, and publishing information on the progress of the investigation in a timely manner, it said.
