Nearly 25 percent of American adults are food insecure, and roughly 10 percent are anxious about their ability to pay for food, the Urban Institute said in a report released Tuesday.
The report said that a December 2022 poll of nearly 8,000 Americans ages 18 to 64 found that the number of people who are food insecure was up almost 5 percent from the same time in 2021. About 1 in 6 adults relied on charitable food, up from 1 in 8 before the COVID-19 outbreak.
