Day trips surged in the one-day Tomb-Sweeping Day holiday, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism said.

According to a release by the ministry on Wednesday evening, domestic attractions and destinations received about 24 million visits on the day, up 22.7 percent from the previous year's holiday. In 2022, the Tomb-sweeping Day holiday lasted three days from April 3 to 5.

Tourism-related revenue for the holiday is projected to reach over 6.52 billion yuan ($950 million), a rise of 29.1 percent from the same day last year.

Early on Monday, the online travel agency Trip.com Group released a report saying bookings for day trips increased five times from the same period last year. Emperor Qinshihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum in Xi'an, Shaanxi province; the Palace Museum in Beijing and Chengdu's Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding were the most favored destination by day trippers, according to the report.
