Former chairman of Shanghai Electric Group stands trial

Zheng Jianhua, a former chairman of State-owned enterprise Shanghai Electric Group, went on trial for bribery, embezzlement, misappropriation of public funds, and abuse of power charges at Shanghai No 1 Intermediate People's Court on Wednesday.
The 63-year-old had allegedly requested or illegally accepted property worth more than 156 million yuan ($22.63 million) in exchange for undertaking projects, according to the prosecutors.
These acts were allegedly made when he was the head of the Shanghai Electric Power Plant Co, president of the Shanghai Electric Power Plant Group, president and chairman of Shanghai Electric Group, and chairman of Shanghai Electric Holding Group from 2003 and 2021.
Zheng is also being accused of violating work regulations and abusing his power for personal gain between 2015 and 2021, and for lending public funds to others without authorization in 2018. To date, more than 700 million yuan has not been recovered.
