A recent cold front has caused a dramatic drop in temperatures across many parts of China, leading people to switch from their short sleeves back to winter coats, according to the nation's meteorological department on Sunday.

More than 25 provinces and cities have experienced a significant shift from warm to cold weather. Many northern areas have seen rain and snow, with some regions experiencing heavy snowfall.

In Shanxi province, temperatures dropped by nearly 30 degrees Celsius within 24 hours, with accumulated snow depths reaching up to 24 centimeters in some areas. The province has issued a yellow warning for snowstorms across the entire region.

The cold front is expected to continue, with widespread rain and snow predicted in the north and central regions. While such strong cold fronts in April are not unusual, this particular front has been characterized by its longer duration and heavier than usual rainfall.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system for snowstorms with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
