The National Copyright Administration and the World Intellectual Property Organization have agreed to increase exchanges, including in the areas of digital copyright protection and sharing copyright, to encourage creation and innovation among small and medium-sized enterprises.

The two sides signed an updated memorandum of understanding (MoU) on bilateral cooperation on Tuesday.

According to a statement provided by the administration, the two sides expressed willingness to expand and strengthen cooperation in formulating and implementing international copyright treaties, as well as to enhance the risk prevention and control capabilities of the copyright industry and improve a Chinese plan for inheritance and development of folk literature and art.

The administration and WIPO have always supported each other and sincerely cooperated in international copyright affairs, it said, adding that the new memorandum will help them take the cooperation to a new level.

Since the signing of the memorandum in 2015, the two sides have achieved fruitful results in strengthening international copyright exchanges and cooperation, it said.

Under the joint efforts, the Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances, the first international intellectual property treaty named after a Chinese city, came into effect on April 28, 2020, and the Marrakesh Treaty, the first and only human rights treaty in the field of copyright around the world, was implemented in China on May 5 last year.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of cooperation between China and WIPO. The NCAC and WIPO said that they will continue to actively promote further deepening of relations.
