The Tibet autonomous region will conduct a series of outdoor sports activities in the next few weeks, including climbing the world's highest peak, Qomolangma (Mount Everest), the region's sports bureau said on Wednesday.

A series of sub-activities at the region's 20th China Tibet Climbing Conference will be held between Friday and June 23, said Nyima Tsering, head of the bureau, at a news conference.

The region started hosting the climbing conference in 2001 to provide a platform for climbing and outdoor sports enthusiasts from around the country. More 4,000 people have participated in various activities launched by the conferences.

This coming climbing includes six sub-activities, including a sports industry exchange conference, a skiing and climbing exchange conference of the Luodui Mountain, a climbing expedition activity on Luodui Mountain, an outdoor trekking conference, a rock climbing open tournament and a cross-country bicycle challenge.

The sports industry exchange conference will be held on Sunday in Lhasa. It will be attended by representatives from the State Sports General Administration, responsible cadres and scholars, entrepreneurs, famous climbers and ski mountaineers from different Chinese provinces.

"Participants will share their opinions and discuss the sports industry, outdoor sports, hypoxia, health and the region's outdoor sports plans in the next few years," Nyima Tsering said.

The climbing exchange conference will be held from Friday and May 4 on Luodui Mountain and in its surrounding areas. About 40 ski mountaineers from nationwide will attend the activities.

The climbing expedition activity on the mountain will also be held from Friday and May 4. Around 80 climbers will attend.

"During the climbing expedition, climbers will learn about high altitude medical rescue, climbing environmental protection, adaptive hiking and climbing techniques," said Nyima Tsering, adding that an ascent of Luodui Mountain is expected between May 3 and 4.

The region's 2023 outdoor trekking conference will be held from June 12 to 14. Participants from the region's different work units will be invited to attend the 20-kilometer trek and camp.

The region's 2023 rock climbing activity will be held at a natural rock wall in a suburb of Lhasa from June 18 to 23. It will be attended by rock climbers nationwide and referees at the international and national levels.

In addition, the region's 2023 cross-country bicycle challenge round will be held Friday and Saturday near the Yangbajing High Mountain Training Base in the region's Damshung county.
