The Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League held a symposium on Thursday in Beijing to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the May Day slogan.
On April 30, 1948, the Communist Party of China made a call for non-communist parties to convene a political consultative conference to build New China together while the country was in the midst of a liberation war.
The TDSL, founded on Nov 12, 1947, now numbers about 3,400 members and is one of the eight non-communist parties that expressed support for the call.
Currently, the eight parties participate in state affairs under the leadership of the CPC.
Su Hui, chairwoman of the TDSL, said at the meeting commemorating the event is of great significance for the league's members to actively participate in the practice of building a modern socialist country. Su, also vice chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the country's top political advisory body, called for further upholding and developing the country's multiparty cooperation system.
She said the league will give full play to the advantages of its kinship and ties with people in Taiwan.
