According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism released Wednesday, China's domestic destinations received about 274 million visits over the five-day holiday starting Saturday, marking a year-on-year rise of 70.83 percent. Adjusted by a comparable basis, it represents a recovery of 119.09 percent compared with the same period in 2019.
These domestic visits created revenue of about 148 billion yuan ($21.4 billion), up 128.9 percent year-on-year.
In addition to traditionally popular destinations including Beijing, Shanghai and Dali in Yunnan province, which are famous for their scenery and historical sites, some lesser-known places have attracted large groups of travelers during the holiday. One such destination was Zibo in Shandong province, which went viral on Douyin for its barbecue.
