CHONGQING -- A team of 12 Chinese medical experts returned to China on Friday after finishing their medical aid program in Ethiopia.

The medical team, led by the Army Medical University's Southwest Hospital in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, is the eighth expert team that the Army Medical University (AMU) has sent to aid Ethiopia. The team featured experts from 12 hospital departments, including the oncology, infectious diseases, and radiology departments.

The team arrived in Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia, in May 2022. During their stay, the team saw over 2,700 patients and performed or instructed more than 500 operations. The team also held 24 lectures and trained 25 local doctors.

Since 2015, the AMU has dispatched a total of 85 experts in nine batches to Ethiopia. They have offered medical services to 22,000 people, performed or instructed more than 1,600 operations, and transported and installed over 60,000 ancillary facilities, signs and other supplies.

The latest team departed for Ethiopia on May 10, and is offering services including clinical treatment, personnel training and technical support during the one-year aid program.
