Li Bin, a dough figurine master, knows the importance of passing national intangible cultural heritage onto the younger generation.

Inspired by his grandfather Li Fangqing, the pioneer of Caozhou dough figurines - known as a specialty of Heze city in East China's Shandong province, the younger Li decided to settle down in his home city and dedicate himself to the upbringing and education of future professionals.

Such professionals are hard to raise and keep, said Li, adding that this kind of traditional art lacks public awareness.

While carrying on his grandfather's artistic pursuits, Li said he's also blending modern pop culture with traditional dough sculpting to appeal the art towards young people.
