Official data show that by June 24 the express delivery volume in China this year had reached 60 billion parcels, reaching that milestone 34 days earlier than in 2022. Over the past decade, there has been a tremendous leap from an average of 10 billion parcels per year to an average of 10 billion parcels per month.
Currently, China has built the world's largest postal and express delivery network. By the end of 2022, there were 434,000 business outlets of various types, with express delivery services covering 95 percent of villages nationwide. Currently, over 100 million parcels are flowing through rural areas in China every day, facilitating the distribution of industrial products to villages and the transportation of agricultural products to cities. Cross-border delivery capabilities are steadily improving, and the international supply chain network covers various regions.
The rapid growth of the express delivery industry, with over 60 billion parcels in six months, is supported by China's well-developed infrastructure, comprehensive industrial system and the immense scale of its market. China has built the world's largest high-speed railway network, expressway network, and world-class port and airport clusters. By the end of 2022, the total length of rural roads in the country had reached 4.53 million kilometers. China also possesses the world's largest and most diverse manufacturing system. As the economy and society return to normalcy, manufacturing capacity has been rapidly unleashed. The vast market of over 1.4 billion people and the strong purchasing power of more than 400 million middle-income earners create an unparalleled consumer force that other countries cannot match.
The express delivery industry connects households, links cities and industries, and bridges the online and offline sectors. Its role in serving high-quality economic development and improving people's quality of life is increasingly prominent. The logistics network has brought prosperity to various industries. The combination of local characteristic industries, e-commerce and express deliveries has become a powerful driver for industrial upgrading, rural revitalization and improving people's livelihoods in many regions.
The 60 billion parcels of express delivery mean that an average of 340 million parcels are being generated every day this year. It also means that on average, each person in the country has sent or received over 40 parcels. This highlights the vitality and potential of the Chinese economy. The volume of express delivery, like indicators such as electricity consumption and railway freight volume, is an important physical indicator to observe the direction of China's economic operation. As the express parcels cross urban and rural areas, traverse mountains and seas, and weather storms, they leave vivid footprints in China's stable and positive economic development.
