4 killed, 7 injured in shooting at July 4th celebration party in US Louisiana

HOUSTON - Four people were killed and seven others were injured in a shooting at a July 4th celebration party shortly before Tuesday midnight in Shreveport, southern US state Louisiana, authorities said on Wednesday.

Shreveport police said that at least one gunman opened fire at a street gathering of about 100 people. The community event has reportedly taken place for more than a decade.

Three people were announced dead overnight, and police discovered another body in a nearby field on Wednesday morning, Shreveport police spokesperson Angie Willhite said.

Among the wounded, one person was in extremely critical condition, she said.

No suspects have been taken into custody and the motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, according to Willhite.

The shooting came amid a recent burst of gun violence across the United States over the Independence Day weekend. Mass shootings were reported in multiple cities including Baltimore, Philadelphia, Fort Worth and Washington, DC, leaving at least ten people dead and dozens of others injured.
