BEIJING -- Wang Xuefeng, former deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Hebei Provincial People's Congress, was expelled from the Communist Party of China over serious violations of Party discipline and laws.

His punishment was announced by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision in a statement on Thursday.

An investigation by the country's top anti-graft body found that Wang, having lost track of his ideals and faith, committed a series of wrongdoings in disregard of the central Party leadership's eight-point decision on improving Party and government conduct, such as attending banquets and accepting presents.

Wang was also found to have taken advantage of his posts to seek profits for others in terms of promotions, job adjustments and business operations, and illegally accepted huge amounts of money and property in return.

Wang has seriously violated Party disciplines and his actions have constituted duty-related malfeasance. He is also suspected of accepting bribes, according to the statement.

In accordance with relevant disciplines and laws, it was decided to expel Wang from the Party, with his illegal gains confiscated. His case will be transferred to prosecutors for review and prosecution.
