The Ministry of Education has asked local education authorities and schools to make the most efforts to prevent safety accidents of students during summer vacation.

In a notice issued on Friday, the ministry said schools should conduct a safety education and warning event on all students before the summer vacation, focusing on drowning, fire, traffic accident, food poison, natural disaster, fraud, online addiction, bullying and sexual assault, the notice said.

During the vacation, authorities should make full use of the media to conduct safety education, reminding students to pay attention to their personal safety, especially not driving cars, being tricked by online information or participating in online gambling events, the notice said.

Special attention should be paid on children whose parents work in cities and are looked after by grandparents, it said.

Local authorities should guide schools to conduct safety hazard inspections during summer vacation, covering all key areas and venues, the notice said.

Schools offering summer day-care services should also carry out safety hazard inspections. The day-care services should be voluntary, providing students with various activities such as sports, arts, reading and academic tutoring, it said.

Education authorities should also work with other departments to offer various activities to students and guide parents to make good arrangements of the students' lives during vacation, the notice said.

Meanwhile, parents should take a rational view on summer vacation and extracurricular tutoring and choose such services that are cautious in preventing any accidents, it added.
