Grid Coffee, an emerging Chinese coffee brand, is looking to tap into the rising demand from coffee lovers in drinking coffee that is high-quality and sugar free.

The Beijing-based company differentiates itself from other coffee brands through focusing on single-origin coffee without sugars or additives.

Single-origin coffee, according to Chen Ziyu, head of Grid Coffee, is sourced from one single producer, crop or region in one country, and usually has the most original and unaltered flavor.

In comparison, a coffee blend combines the elements of various beans, he said.

"Amid a market that is full of traditional coffee brands, we really hope to be a latecomer to change the landscape and create a brand that has some unique Chinese culture," Chen said.

For instance, the company has developed the C series coffee, under which it collaborated with manors from Yunnan province to discover and develop made-in-China coffee beans.

Such efforts have proved fruitful. Grid Coffee has sold 30,000 cups of coffee only within three months since its founding.

"The mission of Chinese coffee brands is not only to make coffee that is more in line with the tastes of Chinese people, but also to be able to lead the aesthetics and trend of coffee consumption and form unique Chinese coffee culture," he added.

Jiang Rui contributed to the story.
