Precious amber from around the globe is on show at Hebei Museum in Shijiazhuang, North China's Hebei province, providing an opportunity for locals to appreciate its color and natural beauty.

The show —Time Travelers: Global Amber Treasures Exhibition — kicked off on Saturday and will run till October, according to the museum.

Amber is a hard yellowish or brownish translucent fossil resin that is difficult to polish. Pieces of amber sometimes contain animal and plant materials due to the fact that it originates from a soft and sticky tree resin.

The exhibition will showcase more than 500 pieces of precious amber that have been collected from three major amber producing areas in Europe, Asia and the Americas, the museum said.
