With half the summer season over, more than 400 million passenger trips have been made across China's railway network, according to the national railway operator China State Railway Group.

The 2023 summer season started on July 1 and will end on Aug 31.

Last month, 406 million passenger trips were made. The average number of daily passenger trips was 13.1 million. The network transported 324 million metric tons of cargo during that period, an average of 10.45 million everyday.

In addition, the capacity of passenger and freight transport has remained high, and railway operations have remained safe and orderly, the group said.

To meet passengers' needs, a new train schedule has been set to add more services and improve the network's efficiency.

Since the summer began, about 10,169 train services have been operated daily, an increase of 14.2 percent compared with the same period in 2019.
