Michael Campbell, Nicaragua's ambassador to China, said he was inspired by local efforts to improve people's living conditions through modernization during his recent visit to Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region.
"With the portable water project here, 460,000 residents were provided with (clean) water. That is a fundamental victory everywhere," he said after paying a trip to Jiashi county in Kashgar.
Campbell said his country is also focusing on providing people with sanitary potable water and improving livelihoods in such areas as housing, education and food security.
"So when we had the opportunity to see the water project here, it was very impressive to us," he said, adding that he can see practical efforts to promote the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through modernization in the region.
The ambassador arrived in China to assume his current post in May. Besides Xinjiang, he also visited Shandong and Hebei provinces and Yiwu city in Zhejiang province over the past few months. He plans to set foot on all 34 provincial-level regions in the country.
"Every single province has its own particularity. I think Xinjiang is wonderful and beautiful in its own way," he said, noting that he also witnessed the support that has been provided to the religious sites in Xinjiang.
Campbell said it is very important to take into account the considerations of all the ethnic groups in a multi-ethnic country because that helps to provide creativity to the prosperity of the nation.
"This is something that we can see here in China," he said.
"We can tell that what countries like the United States and other European countries are saying about Xinjiang is a complete lie," the ambassador added.
